Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up (Adults Only)
One of my all-time favorite songs by Prodigy, and the vid is BRILLIANT. Watch it all the way through, trust - things are not always as they seem. Disturbing to some, art to me! (warning: it's slightly adult-themed, so don't watch it if you have thin skin)

Kylie Minogue - Body Language Video
I wish I liked her music, because I really think she's not afraid to take chances. For me though, I always just feel like the music is cheap sounding, maybe it's a cultural difference. I like the video though, of course! Hope they're wearing sunscreen, it needs to be 30 SPF or higher. (ha)

Heidi Montag - Higher Video
Here's the video from Heidi Montag from The Hills. I feel bad for her, because people have hated on her so much, but here's the thing: If you're going try to be in the music biz and release a music video, you gotta do it right because people don't often get a second chance. Her boyfriend, Spencer Pratt, filmed this in two takes (surprised?) and they used a boom box for the music performance part. I like her, so I'm not gonna diss her. Have a look:

Myths About Travel Tricks
If you're looking to travel and really want (or need) to get the best deal, you might Google to find some tricks. Some will tell you Wednesday at midnight (wherever the hub is for the company) because supposedly you can find newly released tickets or something like that. So when is the best time to buy your airline tickets? I did a little digging, and I found a site that addresses some of those myths. Click here to be transported to the land that I speak of.

Sia - New CD
You might have heard her inside your local coffee house, and she's definitely quirky. But having said that, I love her CD called Some People Have Real Problems. (sing it sister!) For me, the standout track is "Beautiful Calm Driving". See below for a video somebody made set to the song. Must have been a helmet-cam, I must have one!

Global Warming Hitting Close to Home?
There's an article in the Seattle PI that basically talks about how the oxygen levels in our waters have gotten so low that sea life is dying and some areas have actually ZERO oxygen. Much of this can be contributed to the strong winds sweeping up the deeper, colder, less-oxygen filled waters to the shallower parts, and those are typically more productive and full of nutrients. This is causing crabs, rockfish, and eels to die. While the NW waters make up 1% or less of the world's oceans, 20% of all seafood we eat comes from it. Yikes! To read this scary article, click here.

Madonna - Pepsi Commercial
Remember this? It played once during the Cosby Show before they yanked it. Apparently, her "Like a Prayer" video upset a whole lot of stiffs. But she still got paid - holla!

Jane Fonda and the C Word on The Today Show
Meredith, you hardly paused. And Jane, the Georgian accent made that sound just a little bit sweeter.

Coffee - How Does It Work?
The extent I think about coffee is pretty much limited to me thinking that one person goes from hateful to loving in about 25 minutes. Not much more than that. Sometimes when I'm feeling like going deeper than "I want to wake up" or "Chevron or Starbucks?", I am curious to know how it works physiologically. Well, here's some information from How Stuff Works:
To a nerve cell, caffeine looks like adenosine. Caffeine therefore binds to the adenosine receptor. However, it doesn't slow down the cell's activity like adenosine would. So the cell cannot "see" adenosine anymore because caffeine is taking up all the receptors adenosine binds to. So instead of slowing down because of the adenosine level, the cells speed up. You can see that caffeine also causes the brain's blood vessels to constrict, because it blocks adenosine's ability to open them up. This effect is why some headache medicines like Anacin contain caffeine -- if you have a vascular headache, the caffeine will close down the blood vessels and relieve it.
So now you have increased neuron firing in the brain. The pituitary gland sees all of the activity and thinks some sort of emergency must be occurring, so it releases hormones that tell the adrenal glands to produce adrenaline (epinephrine). Adrenaline is the "fight or flight" hormone, and it has a number of effects on your body:
- Your pupils dilate.
- Your breathing tubes open up (this is why people suffering from severe asthma attacks are sometimes injected with epinephrine).
- Your heart beats faster.
- Blood vessels on the surface constrict to slow blood flow from cuts and also to increase blood flow to muscles. Blood pressure rises.
- Blood flow to the stomach slows.
- The liver releases sugar into the bloodstream for extra energy.
- Muscles tighten up, ready for action.
- You feel like going to the mall. (ok, I added that one)

Philippe Starck's Ghost Chair - I Want One!
This is a single-mold injection piece, made of polycarbonate that is a take on a Louis XV side chair. And I want one, orange please, or green. I'm not sure if I love it for it's design or because somehow it harkens back to my love of Wonder Woman and her invisible jet. Oh well, either way I love it. You can buy one here.

DNA Art
When you can't find that perfect piece of art, or you want something that's timeless, how about getting a piece of art with your DNA on proud display? It sounds kind of strange - true. But it's fantastic! You sign in, they send you a swab kit (your inside cheek), you send it back, the art gets created. You can also do fingerprints if that's more to your liking. Check out DNA11's site. I believe the prices start at around $390, but if you collect art of any sort, you know that's not much. So don't be a cheap bitch and go buy one! For me, preferably.
